THE NEST | A GRADUAL SEPARATION PROGRAM
at
THE PLAY LAB
This September at The Play Lab, we're excited to introduce The Nest:
a gentle, fun and bilingual separation program thoughtfully designed for children aged 1.5-2.5 years.
It is the first bilingual English-French separation program, offering children a rich linguistic experience.
The aim of the program is to facilitate a smooth and positive transition
for both children and their families as they begin spending time apart.
Children develop confidence and independence in an environment that fosters social and emotional learning.
We provide a nurturing atmosphere with a blend of structure and flexibility, encouraging exploration, experimentation, and risk-taking.
The program spans two semesters.
Sessions are 2 hours long, meeting every Tuesday and Thursday.
Each day runs from 9 - 11 am.
Semester One | Tuesday, October 8, 2024 - Thursday, December 19, 2024
Children participate accompanied by their parents/caregivers,
promoting independence while caregivers remain nearby for added reassurance.
Semester Two | Tuesday, January 14, 2025 - Thursday, April 3, 2025
Children attend independently, learning to navigate activities,
socialize with peers, and trust themselves.
The program is bilingual in French and English.
On Tuesdays, children will engage in French immersion activities and play-based learning.
Thursdays will focus on communication, activities, and play in English.
Children will receive support in transitioning between both languages, facilitated by our bilingual teachers.
Throughout the program, we offer a co-working space for parents/caregivers in The Yard,
located within the same building (included in tuition). This allows parents to work nearby
and be available for comfort and support as needed during program sessions.
The Play Lab Nest is developed by Magda Lahliti, owner of The Play Lab and founder of French for Little Ones.
Magda has created various curricula for preschools and after-school programs,
drawing inspiration from Montessori and Waldorf educational approaches.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Separation
Our program serves as an excellent preparation before a child's first preschool experience. We meet each child where they are, guiding them through a gentle and seamless process to help both you and your little one feel prepared for separation.
Independence
We foster independence and confidence in your child through a unique and carefully crafted set of tools that include learning through play, discovery, creative activities, and a structured routine.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is centered around children's natural curiosity. It provides ample space for exploration, discovery, creativity, and meaningful experiences, tailored to meet the unique needs of each class session.
Structure and Routine
A crucial aspect of our program is the routine and structure of each session, creating a secure environment for children and their caregivers. This includes not only the classroom routine but also consistent and structured communication with parents and caregivers.
DAILY SCHEDULE
Each day session is 120 minutes long.
Welcome | Arrival : children and caregivers are welcomed to the space, put their belongings away, fostering a sense of independence and self-care as they proudly join through engaging toys and play.
Circle Time : the teacher presents the theme of the class session, including story time, toys and engaging activity. This time promotes language development and social awareness.
Art & Sensory Play : main activity of the day using different artistic tools and including sensory play. Includes elements of free play where the children choose what they want to play. Play is both open-ended and structured.
Clean Up : The group works as a team to put toys away and clean-up, together taking pride and responsibility for the space.
Snack : a little break allowing to socialize and practice manners. Children and caregivers share a simple, healthy snack together.
Play Time or Storytime : free play in the playspace to free little minds and awake creativity & pretend-based play. Children enjoy classics and new books together.
Gross Motor Skills Activity or Group Activity : an important part of each session is teaching children to perform every day functions such as walking and running, playground and sporting skills. Our activities follow and support the interests and passions of our group through art, music, sensory, science.
Dance & Bubbles | Departure Ritual : each day session ends with songs, dance and bubbles. A consistent goodbye routine.
